Tour Poster: Big Thief
In 2019 I got in touch with Big Thief to pitch a poster for their 2020 tour. In the meantime they released a surprise new album and changed direction which means this poster didn’t get used, but I really love it and I get excited every time I translate my visual language into a new form.
Inspiration
The river in the centre of this poster contains ghostly floating railway sleepers - this idea was inspired by Big Thief’s song Cattails, which contains dream-like imagery of rivers and trains. The sky is illuminated with strange glowing shapes, which is intended to reference the title of the album UFOF (UFO Friend).
Method
The riverbanks and swooshes of the water were created using black India ink and a sponge. The colours, railway sleepers and lettering were added digitally. The sky was made using scans of handmade marbled paper with digitally manipulated colours.
