Dreams: Encased

An illustration from my MA research project looking at dreams and narratives

Inspiration

For this project I made illustrations based on a phrases lifted from research participants’ dream journals, which I then responded to, drawing on my own associations to the phrase. For this image I chose one word from a dream, Encased, and wanted to explore the way a safe container can gradually become a prison.

Method

The figure and background textures were made with blank India ink and a sponge. The glowing textures on the floor and walls of the container were made using scans of handmade marbled paper. The colour and hand lettering were added digitally.
