Book Cover: the Master and Margarita
A personal project to create a book cover design for The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, one of my favourite books.
Inspiration
The cover features 3 main characters from the novel - members of a mysterious and mischievous retinue (including a giant cat) - in one very memorable scene with a decapitated head on a train track. The lettering I created for the cover is a combination of a 15th Century manuscript alphabet (uppercase) and the lowercase which I created to match.
Method
The figures were created with black India ink and a sponge, as separate images, and then were combined digitally. The colour, other details, and hand lettering were added digitally in Photoshop.
